My championship jinx continues.
Not only have I never lived in a city where the team I am rooting for has won the championship, this year I saw in person two of the more ridiculous moments in championship history: the Lakers giving up the largest half time lead to the Celtics in the 2008 NBA Finals and the Dodgers giving up a 2 run lead in the 8th inning against the Phillies in Game 4 of the 2008 NLCS.
As I have now admitted, I have started rooting for the Lakers and continue to root for the Clippers. For the first time in my life, I had the opportunity to go to a Lakers game this season. I even got to go to the NBA Finals only to see one of the worst games of all time!
This year, Debbie got me and the family a pass which included 12 Dodgers games. I have never been to more sporting events in one season than this year! We all really got into the Dodgers this year! Caleb had a Dodgers-themed birthday party, and Debbie began to watch Dodgers games on TV when I wasn’t at home! After watching the bullpen blow it the other night (in game 4) and then last night seeing my favorite player at the beginning of the season, Rafael Furcal, make three errors in one inning, I realized how tough it is to truly be a fan! It would be easier not to care at all than to have your heart broken. 🙁
In the end, I guess I should be grateful for an amazing season with some remarkable memories and just try to forget this last series.
For that matter, I should try to forget Manny Ramirez too since I doubt we will be keeping him.
At least, I have my fantasy football and fantasy basketball teams!
