Today, I am scheduled to have back surgery. Appreciate the prayers!
On Dec. 31st I ended up going to the E.R. with what turned out to be sciatica caused by a herniated disk. I have been working from home ever since. Last week I went to the neurosurgeon hoping to receive an epidural shot which would decrease the inflammation causing the pinched nerve. Unfortunately, the herniated disk was more severe than I realized. The herniation is 15mm long and 13mm wide. Some have surgery with a herniation of 5mm, so this is really the only way to go.
Ironically, I think the herniation occurred from sitting at the computer and driving in the car a lot in Dec.. I think my back had been weakened by lifting a car at my brother’s wedding in 1996 and then basketball in Jan. 2008 and many other instances in between. The doctor thinks that all that prolonged sitting could have done the damage. I’ve had 4 X-rays on my back since Jan. 2008, so my back hasn’t been getting better but worse.
I should be in the hospital for 2 days and recovering for up to 6 weeks; however, the Dr. has seen some people able to drive within a week. It just so happens my parents are coming to town tomorrow. (They bought their plane tickets a couple of months ago). My surgery is scheduled for 4:30pm.
We are praying the surgery removes the pain I’ve been experiencing, and that I won’t have any long term nerve damage. Of course, we pray the surgery works well and that my recurring back problems would end as well.
Crazy way to start the year, huh?!
Debbie and the kids have been amazing through this whole thing. Prayer for them as well!
Thanks so much!

Leaning in toward God and His provision and plan on behalf of your life and its expression. As I lean, I stand in agreement with your request, joining hundreds of others, as we petition heaven for you. May the simplest of prayers be heard, and move our God forward toward the surgeon, staff, and Eric with His spirit – guiding hands for the greatest result – no pain and full recovery. Amen.
