Monthly at Gateway Church in Austin we have Lunch and Learn on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Today we heard from Steven Mary of EDC Communications on Communicating with Confidence. Here are some of his insights:
“One of the greatest ways to increase effectiveness as a communicator is to grow in your confidence.
The visual skill set necessary to communicate with confidence include the following (PAGE F):
Posture – Balanced and intentional movement demonstrates a sense of peaceful calm.
Attire – Wear one step up from your audience.
Gestures – Natural and neutral are the best. Waist to shoulders is best
Eye Contact – scanning over the audience or looking down at notes keep the talk impersonal, instead look into the eyes of one person during a train of thought and then choose another person for the next train of thought. Walk to where you are going and then stop to begin talking again.
Facial Expression – Have one! Mold or match the expression to the tone and content of the message.”
You can join us live next month on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from noon to 1pm (CST) at http://live.gatewaychurch.com.
You can watch last month’s when I shared on the Character Matrix here.
Thanks for sharing, Eric. It’s an easy way to remember some basic but important stuff!
