At our Gateway Austin staff meeting we had lunch from Rudy’s BBQ along with a presentation from one their executives. She explained the four steps of the Fish! Philosophy: A Proven Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results inspired by the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. The four steps include the following:
- Play – bring energy to your job, smiles are contagious, having fun makes the day fly by.
- Make Their Day – pay attention, offer a genuine smile, treat everyone as you would like to be treated.
- Be There – eye contact, focused, fully engaged, being present doesn’t just mean being here.
- Choose Your Attitude – how people experience you will determine how they see your entire organization.
Sounds simple enough, but it is remarkable how often we fail to do these things and how often we experience other organizations who fail to pull this off as well.
