From Reaching to Making by Francis Chan

francischanFrancis Chan shared the following at Exponential 2013:

-Looking at old messages, realized where he slipped. Are we truly saying what needs to be said?

-Church in America is an absolute joke. Believer is a follower of Jesus Christ. I question if they’re believers. I wonder how many people sitting in our church don’t even know Christ!

Example of Christ:

8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. (1 Thessalonians 1:8, ESV)

-Want to see Holy Spirit of God transform people to new creations. “I want to see believers who go back to work and co-workers say ‘shut-up’ about the change” Do we still believe that the Holy Spirit actually truly changes people? Not I can make them cry, etc.  There is something about the message of the cross, how much God loves you, that people can have power and new life. “Paul chose to talk dumber so that he would not distract from the power of the cross.”

-Paul. Christ crucified and nothing else. He simply teaches the Gospel and dumb myself down. If I try and do it by my own work it empties the cross of it’s power.

-The church is supposed to be a place where there is so much love we’re giving others life (example of guy giving his kidney to another believer)

-First generation that believes the future isn’t going to be brighter. Headline in paper “Americans ready to snap”. We think fun and pizza night gonna sustain our kids it’s not and we HAVE to make disciples. More soldiers died by suicide last year than by actual conflict. The church has got to be serious about disciple-making.

-To live is Christ, to die is gain. We have to band together even if we lose EVERYTHING. Learning to be content in everything. Redemption is near.

“When was the last time even in the midst of heartache, I knew I had joy.  We can’t lose our sense of joy, wonder, excitement and love when making disciples.  When is the last time you just laughed hysterically? There was an old me that used to have such a great time with Jesus and just now climbing my way out. Get back to enjoying Jesus and stop listening to all these other voices.

Discipleship is follow my example as I FOLLOW CHRIST. Do we look like Jesus? Strengthen what remains and is about to die.
