If you are missing football now that the season is over, I highly recommend Woodlawn!
Set in Birmingham, Alabama just after public schools were integrated, the film is based on a true story of how racial strife was overcome in a high school football team as a result of the team finding faith. The Erwin Brothers who directed the film share the story of their father Hank’s experience. Hank, as portrayed by Sean Astin, was influenced by Billy Graham and served as a sports chaplain.
Caleb Castille went from the body double before shooting began to the star of the film. In real life, Castille played at the University of Alabama just as his father and two older brothers did. Jon Voigt portrays the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant.
With great football action from the high school and collegiate levels, this inspiring story is worth the watch!
