Almost 10 years ago I wrote about about my journey to become someone who is learning to love people Not Like Me.
It’s hard to believe how much the world has changed since then.
It’s hard to believe how we have become even more divided.
In my book I wrote about loving Muslims, loving people from different ethnic backgrounds, loving those who make different moral choices, loving immigrants, and loving others from the opposing political party.
These were not popular ideas then. They seem like even more radical ideas now.
In essence the book is about how those who follow Jesus can love, serve, and even reach people too often neglected, overlooked, or even judged by the church.
The response to Not Like Me has been remarkable!
We have heard stories about how the book has changed the entire approach of a Christian college towards the LGBT community, helped churches re-engage with their neighbors, and helped people of faith become more willing to demonstrate God’s love in the marketplace.
In the past ten years, I have worked with business leaders, non-profit organizations, and church leaders across the U.S. as well as in Zurich, Edinburgh, Sydney, Toronto, and Shanghai, among others.
This past fall, 17 churches did a sermon series through Not Like Me and used the book in their small groups!
In this past year, a generous friend funded a new non-profit to further the work of creating diverse community, cultivating change agents, and finding one’s calling.
Through this non-profit, The Eric Bryant Foundation, one of our projects for 2017 is a practical response to the division and animosity we are experiencing in our broken world.
- We plan to train more people through workshops and leadership retreats.
- We plan to equip more people with a 10th anniversary edition of Not Like Me.
Last week, we were promised up to $10,000 in matching funds to make this happen.
Here’s a practical way you can help:
- Give to The Foundation.
All funds given are tax-deductible. If given by 12/31/16, your gift will be doubled. - Host or attend a workshop or leadership retreat.
- Go through Not Like Me with your non-profit or as a sermon series in your church.
Special discounts can be arranged for purchasing copies of the book.
Giving by the end of 2016 will enable us to edit the book, re-publish the book, make the books available at a discount, and organize workshops and leadership retreats.
