Matthew 8 – What If Jesus Had Power Over Disease?

Jesus begins demonstrating He is the promised Messiah by healing a man with leprosy, a Roman Centurion’s servant, Peter’s wife, and several people who were demonized.

Matthew points out that Jesus is fulfilling the prophecy that the Messiah “took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

Sometimes God heals instantaneously. Sometimes there is a journey towards healing. Sometimes God does not answer our prayers the way we would want. No matter how He answers, we can trust Him as we put Him in the center of our lives.

What if we pursued Jesus for healing?

Jesus begins demonstrating He is the promised Messiah by healing a man with leprosy, a Roman Centurion’s servant, Peter’s wife, and several people who were demonized. Also, notice how Jesus uses hyperbole to make his point. He uses extreme language like “let the dead bury their own dead” in order to make His point and to get His listener’s attention.

People say they will follow Jesus, but they make other things a priority.

To follow Jesus means to truly surrender, allowing Him to be the center of your life and guiding you into all of your relationships and in all of your decisions.
