Matthew 12 – Does Your Life Produce Good Fruit?

God established the Sabbath as a day of rest acknowledging He is the Great Provider and we can rest and trust Him.

Over the years the religious leaders have added their ideas of how to apply the law to their lives. Often religion is a man made way to control people.

Jesus understands the purpose of the law. The law shows us we need God’s help to lead a righteous life. When we try to live according to the law on our own strength, we fail.

Jesus says: “If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”” – ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We are the people who know we need God’s mercy and should be those who extend God’s mercy to others.

Message 12 Notes:

Does your life produce good fruit?

God established the Sabbath as a day of rest acknowledging He is the Great Provider and we can rest and trust Him.

Over the years the religious leaders have added their ideas of how to apply the law to their lives. Often religion is a man made way to control people.

Jesus understands the purpose of the law. The law shows us we need God’s help to lead a righteous life. When we try to live according to the law on our own strength, we fail.

Jesus reminds the religious leaders that picking grain and healing people on the Sabbath is absolutely appropriate.

“If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”” – ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Drop the mic!

We are the people who know we need God’s mercy and should be those who extend God’s mercy to others.

Jesus still doesn’t want people to tell everyone who He is quite yet. He’s got more places to go and things to do before it will be time for that.

When skeptics demanded a sign, Jesus prophecies that he will be in the earth for

“three days and three nights.” Some have a problem with this since he was crucified on a Friday and rose from the dead on a Sunday. “3 days and 3 nights” is a Hebrew expression that in round numbers is a period of about three days. Just like if a child is born at 11:59pm on January 7, her birthday is January 7.

Jesus teaches us that a good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces evil fruit.
