When it comes to God, are we talking instead of listening?
At the end of Matthew 16 Jesus predicts some would not die before seeing Jesus in his glory. The story right after that is the Transfiguration. His prophecy came true. They got to see into the spiritual realm and see who Jesus truly is!
Peter seems to always want to fill the silence only making things more awkward so God the Father tells Him to stop talking and start listening!
In my own life, I spend more time telling God what to do rather than listening to Him. And if I understood His greatness and His majesty and power, I would reverse that.

Matthew 17 Notes:

“His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”
Matthew 17:2 NIV
He looked like He was described in the book of Revelation or even in the medical journals describing what people with Near Death Experiences or how he’s been described by people who had a vision of Jesus.
Peter seems to always want to fill the silence only making things more awkward so God the Father tells Him to stop talking and start listening!
You know this really stood out to me today. In my own life, I spend more time talking with God than listening to Him. And if I understood His greatness and His majesty and power, I would imagine I would reverse that.
Jesus goes on to help them see that John the Baptist was the new Elijah that was to come to prepare the way for the Messiah and that faith is the currency of His Kingdom. Even just the size of the mustard seed, small faith in a BIG God can lead to supernatural things.
Jesus handles a question about navigating the kingdoms of the world even though we are citizens by faith of an invisible heavenly Kingdom in such a brilliant and miraculous way by saying to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and then providing a coin from the belly of a fish to pay the tax.
Today I’m going to try to listen to God and hear and see what He wants me to do rather than just telling Him what I think He should do.
How do you plan to apply today’s passage?
