Matthew 20 Notes:
What Do You Want Jesus To Do For You?
It’s a powerful question. At the end of Matthew 20 Jesus asked two blind men this question. They were calling out for Jesus. They explained they wanted to see so he healed them.
How would you answer this question from Jesus?
Jesus can heal us, but He offers something even beyond that – life in the Kingdom of Heaven that begins when we surrender all to follow Him.
John and James’ Mom would have answered that question with “I want my children to reign with you in your kingdom.” Jesus had to remind her that leadership, power, and greatness are upside down in His kingdom. The last will be first. The servant, the slave, the one willing to die to serve and serve others are great in His Kingdom.
He’s the greatest example of this as He reminded them His coronation as King of this new Kingdom was to be raised up on a cross with a crown of thorns – rather than a crown of gold on a throne.
And this king is generous. According to the opening parable He gives new life to all whether they come to faith in the last moments of life or served faithfully their entire lives, whether they were Gentiles without any connection to the Jewish rules and traditions or a devoted follower of the law. All can work in His Kingdom!
