Mark 2 – How Has Jesus Broken the Mold In Your Life?

Jesus is becoming more and more popular as he heals a paralyzed man brought to Jesus through the roof!

Jesus is doing something new which doesn’t fit into their current understanding of who God is.

He’s even recruiting tax collectors and spending time with his friends.

This episode was filmed in India where those who follow Jesus are sharing about the One True God to people who believe in many gods much like the Christians in Rome that Mark was writing.

Mark 2 Notes:

The crowds were so huge that several people carried their paralyzed friend to Jesus and the only way they could get to him was to dig through the roof and lower him down to Jesus. Jesus was amazed by the faith of the paralyzed man’s friends so he extended forgiveness to the paralyzed man demonstrating he was God in human form because only God can forgive. Religious leaders were upset so then Jesus decided to push the issue even further and healed the man physically.

People were amazed and he became even more popular!

Jesus invited Levi, a tax collector to follow him. He threw a party with all of his friends who all happened to also be tax collectors and prostitutes which made the religious leaders even more upset. By the way, Levi became known as Matthew and he wrote his own Gospel as an eyewitness of Jesus.

To throw off the religious leaders Jesus said: “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

By the way, all need to be forgiven – even those who think they don’t. Their arrogance blinded them from the reality of their spiritual brokenness.

Jesus tells the people that he is the Bridegroom and the Lord of the Sabbath.

Jesus explains he is doing something new which doesn’t fit into their current understanding of who God is.

His work and His Kingdom are like new wine which cannot go into old wineskins because new wine expands and busts through the hardened leather of the old wineskins.

In what ways has God shown himself to be bigger than you thought?

Said another way: how have you limited what you think God wants to do in your life or the lives of those you love?

Who has he invited you to serve or to love that you might have overlooked otherwise?
