Mark 10 – What Does God Want You to Surrender?

In my experience, when I surrender everything to God including my sin, my shame, my worst moments, my best moments, all that I love, my hopes, and my dreams He keeps what is not good for me and gives me back only what’s best for me. When I surrender all to Him, I have a new and better perspective that every good thing I have is actually a gift from God! It all belongs to Him!

This episode was filmed in India where those who follow Jesus are sharing about the One True God to people who believe in many gods much like the Christians in Rome that Mark was writing.

Mark 10 Notes:

One of the beautiful things about having 4 Gospel accounts – 2 from eyewitnesses and 2 from interviews with eyewitnesses – is that we can compare them to each other and gain a little insight into the stories they share that are similar.

In Mark 10 we read several stories also shared when we read Matthew.

One difference between Matthew and Mark’s account in one of these stories is that we see that Jesus explains his answer on divorce to the teachers of the law privately with the disciples.

We see other similar stories that we read in Matthew such as letting children come to Jesus, the argument about position and authority in the new kingdom, the healing of Bartimaeus who was blind, and the rich young ruler who walked away choosing to hold onto his wealth rather than entrusting everything to God to follow Jesus.

Some of my favorite verses from this chapter include some that are encouraging and some that are challenging:

“With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” (Mark‬ ‭10‬:‭27‬ NIV)

Those who leave their families for Jesus will be blessed for their sacrifice.

“But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (‭‭Mark‬ ‭10‬:‭31‬, ‭43‬-‭45‬ NIV)
