Message Notes:

A wedding celebration runs out of wine, and Mary asks Jesus to get involved.

Jesus asks the servants to fill up six jars with water, Normally these jars are used for ceremonial washing, but now Jesus turns the water in those jars into the best wine anyone had ever tasted.

John points out this was the first sign Jesus did to reveal Himself to others. In this case we discover Jesus brings quality to life.

As a result, the disciples believe.

Jesus goes to the Temple courts and clears out the corrupt money changers who create barriers for people to experience God.

Jesus then compares Himself to the Temple saying: “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” (‭‭John‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬ NIV)

In the other Gospel accounts Jesus clears the Temple near the end of his ministry. It’s possible that the authors wrote their accounts more concerned with communicating their message than with a chronological record. It’s also quite possible that Jesus began and ended his ministry removing the man made barriers that were getting in the way of people experiencing the love of God.
