Jesus hears that his good friend Lazarus is sick. Rather than go to him to heal him, Jesus waits.
Jesus says to Martha: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Jesus weeps with those who are weeping before he goes to the tomb and calls Lazarus to come out!
Then Lazarus lives again!

Message:
Jesus hears that his good friend Lazarus is sick. Rather than go to him to heal him as Lazarus’ sisters Mary and Martha wanted, Jesus waits to go to him.
Eventually Jesus and the disciples make their way to Bethany in spite of the danger as not long before a crowd of religious leaders wanted to stone Jesus for claiming to be God.
Jesus and Martha have a fascinating conversation as Martha comes out to talk to Jesus saying: “I know God will do whatever you ask.”
Jesus responds with: “Your brother will rise again.”
And Martha mentions that she knows he will rise again at the resurrection referring to the idea that all who die will one day come back to life.
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”” (John 11:25-27 NIV)
Then Jesus weeps with those who are weeping, reminding us that God mourns with those who mourn. He hurts with us when we hurt.
If that conversation and Jesus’ empathy wasn’t remarkable enough, Jesus then goes to the tomb and calls Lazarus to come out!
Lazarus lives again!
As you might imagine “Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done…. So from that day on they plotted to take his life.”
(John 11:45-46, 53 NIV)
