As many of you know for the last couple years, I’ve been working really hard to walk and step with the spirit rather than running out ahead and telling God what to do as I’ve often done in the past.
I was inspired by the Great Invitation from Jesus which says:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28-29
Many of us know the Great Commission to “go and make disciples” and the Great Commandment “to love God and love people”, but too few of us know and experience the Great Invitation.
What’s been remarkable? Is that in slow slowing down to catch up with the speed of the Spirit and partnering with God, I’ve seen some amazing things!
For example, for five years, I’ve tried to interview NT Wright for a podcast I do for pastors and church leaders. I own 40 of his 80 bucks and he shaped so much of my understanding of how to apply the scriptures to our lives!
And a start far too long to share on a Sunday, I was able to interview him three weeks ago. The main detail I want to share about that journey was God guiding me in very unique ways is what open the door in a way I never could open on my own.
No, the innovative church leaders podcast is a new name for what I’ve been doing over the past five years on the side. Some people pick up golf when their kids move out of the house instead I’ve tried to help other pastors.
In the last three weeks, we went from 16 subscribers on our YouTube channel to 25,000. The most viewed video on YouTube was 179. This interview with Dr. Wright has 72,000!
There’s only one other time in my life where I had a somewhat viral video. That was 18 years ago when YouTube was new and I had a stand-up comedy set get 66,000 views, but that video looks like it was recorded back when the world was blurry.
God wants to partner with you!
Let’s move away from telling God what to do and learned to truly follow him! We will be amazed at what he does in us and through us.
