Recently, I had the privilege of connecting with David Ingall, founder of Burning Heart Ministries. What caught my attention initially was their beautifully crafted film series on the book of Daniel featured on YouVersion.
The ministry’s name comes from Luke 24, where two disciples on the road to Emmaus said, “Were not our hearts burning within us as he talked with us?” This captures David’s heart for ministry – opening the Scriptures not just for head knowledge, but for transformed hearts through encounters with God.
What makes Burning Heart unique is their approach through film. As a former Anglican pastor, David saw an opportunity to leverage this powerful medium that remains largely untapped in discipleship and teaching. While we have countless Christian books available, there aren’t nearly as many high-quality film resources for spiritual growth.
Their films aren’t simply recorded sermons or TED Talk style presentations. Instead, they create cinematic experiences that bring Scripture to life. Recent series include explorations of the Bible, Deuteronomy, and themes like struggling with judgment, prayer, the courage to believe (Jeroboam), and pursuing peace.
The films are intentionally crafted to be 20 minutes long, making them perfect for small group discussions or personal devotional time.
Burning Heart’s newest series is called “Stories Jesus Told” about the parables, featuring modern dramatizations (see the trailer below). They’re also developing content on Genesis with theologians Amy Orr-Irving and David Bennett, exploring God’s vision for life.
For church leaders feeling discouraged, David offers this reminder: “It isn’t my job to grow a massive church or make things happen. God called me, but He loved me first. He doesn’t love me because I’m a pastor or because I make these films.”
