Pomplamoose Cover Tunes

If you haven’t seen Pomplamoose cover songs like “Beat It” by Michael Jackson, “My Favorite Things” by Julie Andrews, or “Single Ladies” by Beyonce, then take a look:

They have a great sound, and have used youtube and the internet in a very clever and creative way to get the word out about their original music. Without these cover songs, I doubt I would have ever heard of them.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the Michael Jackson memorial, and I am sure I will see much of the event on the news tonight. Lots of people in L.A. have been saddened by his death. Lots of people worried about the affect on today’s traffic. Some seem frustrated by the cost to the city. Many felt a mixture of all three.

When you break it all down, no matter what you think of Michael Jackson, any loss of life should make us pause. Every life should be worth this much attention.

“Wide Awake” = A Hopeful “Thriller”

Last night at Mosaic at the Mayan club, the music, the message, and the entire experience was remarkable! I felt like I was catching a glimpse of the future!

One of the most amazing moments came during the dance. We had planned to have this dance during this particular Sunday of “The Unexplainable” series since the topic was “Jesus’ Power Over Death” from John 11. It just so happened some of our best dancers who have been traveling the world were all back in town. Throughout the dance, you could not help but think of Michael Jackson. It felt like an homage to “Thriller” but with a goal of bringing hope rather than fear. 🙂

Interesting side note: Erwin McManus spoke last night. He was born August 28, 1958 – one day before Michael Jackson who was born August 29, 1958.

Losing 80s Icons

farrah-fawcett-resizeMichael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Ed McMahon have all passed away in the past few days.  So tragic.  Life is too fleeting.

Among my friends, if you weren’t allowed to have the poster of Farrah Fawcett on your wall, you may have had Michael Jackson on your wall.  I’ll never forget watching MJ at the Grammys.  Michael wearing his glove and doing the moonwalk was mesmerizing.

Caleb recently discovered Michael Jackson’s music and soon decided he was his favorite musician. After today’s tragedy, he’s decided he will never listen to him again because it will make him too sad. I am hoping he changes his mind in time for our road trip later in the summer. Michael may be gone, but his music lives on!

Pompaloose Cover Tunes

Have you seen the Pompaloose cover tunes?  They have some clever and catchy versions of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” Julie Andrews’ “My Favorite Things,” as well as our favorite: Beyonce’s “Single Ladies:”

They are gifted musicians, but they are truly clever marketers. Having enjoyed their cover tunes, I have now started listening to their original music. Well done!
