The Post-Christian Podcast – A.J. Diaz (Pets As a Path for Outreach)

In a city like Austin where there are more dogs and cats than people who follow Jesus, a unique way into the hearts of those we are trying to reach includes their pets!

Recently I interviewed Annemarie (A.J.) Diaz about her first book My Beautiful Bellissima: Stories of Love and Heeling which is a compilation of stories centered around the dogs she has loved and learned from, and also sharing her own struggles with fears and anxiety, which were overcome with the help of feral adoptee named Bellissima (Bella).

She lives in Central Texas with her husband Shaniko, mother-in-law, and three beautiful fur babies. A.J. is a lifelong lover of nature and animals, finding inspiration and joy in the beauty of God’s creation. She has a passion for fostering reconciliation, reconciliation between humans and the natural world, humans and God, and humans and one another. She is part of Gateway Church in Austin.

Recently, we baptized a young woman from a Muslim background who was invited by another woman from our church when their dogs connected at a dog park.

The Post-Christian Podcast – Fruitful (Audiobook Giveaway)

As we kick off season 7, I share a message in which I shared insights from my book Fruitful: Becoming Who God Created You to Be at Mosaic South Pasadena.

Jesus revealed a new way of looking at life, a new way of organizing the future. God’s design for our lives is that we would be productive, generative, and creative.

Jesus described four types of soils representing four types of people. Some are like a path, some are like a shallow and rocky soil, some are like soil growing thorns, and some are like a soil that produces much fruit.

Jesus’ parable points out that we struggle to become who we were created to be when we have a hardened heart, a shallow faith, or are easily distracted. If we can avoid these pitfalls, we will be fruitful.

Four Characteristics To Become Fruitful:

  • Receptivity
  • Tenacity
  • Intentionality
  • Proactivity

Up For A Spiritual Adventure in 2024?

Whether you have been following God for a long time or you aren’t sure about God, I want to invite you to read through the New Testament with an open heart and open mind over the course of the next year!

Just one chapter a day, five days a week.

Here’s the plan each day:

  • Pray: “God, show me who you are and who you want me to be.”
  • Read the chapter.
  • Watch the video corresponding to that chapter.
  • Write down in your journal what you discover and how to live it out.

The videos can be found at the Through the New Testament for Skeptics, Seekers, and Disciples playlist in my YouTube channel or via the new podcast Through the Bible for Skeptics and Seekers on Spotify or via Apple Podcasts.

The Post-Christian Podcast – Reflecting on 2023 and Making an Impact in 2024

In this episode, I share some of the highlights of 2023 with a look towards how together we can make an impact in 2024.

From making the Church Growth Workshop available for free to helping skeptics through the New Testament and co-founding the Damascus Road Collective in an effort to help bring spiritual renewal through thriving churches, 2023 was the best year yet for Catalyzing Community!

Our ministry Gateway in Austin included some remarkable opportunities from a healthy and beautiful transition from John Burke to Carlos Ortiz, Jr. as senior pastor to a trip to see the remarkable work of Impact India 360 to a sabbatical to seeing transformation in the hearts of South Austinites and folks connecting to our online campus, there have been many things to be thankful for in 2023!
